The National Automotive History Collection is a public archive open to Detroit Residents free of charge. Non resident fees may be applicable. Visitors do not have to make an appointment. The NAHC is located on the second floor of the Rose and Robert Skillman Branch. The hours are:

Fall/Winter Hours:
Monday - Thursday and Saturday - 10 am - 6 pm (after Labor Day)
Spring/ Summer Hours:
Monday - Friday - 10 am - 6 pm (after Memorial Day)

The collection of the NAHC is non-circulating; therefore, research must be conducted in the NAHC reading room. For some NAHC collections, the library requires visitors to register and provide picture identification.

Books and some magazine articles in the collection can be accessed through the library's online catalog. Other materials, however, such as photographs, vertical files, and special collections are not accessible through the online catalog. For these materials, card catalogs, indexes, and finding aids have been compiled as keys.

Some NAHC materials are stored in an offsite library facility. Please contact us to inquire about accessibility.
