Thank
You Detroit
For Your Support of Proposals L and M

On Tuesday, November 2nd, Detroiters gave a resounding nod of approval
to the Detroit Public Library through a Yes vote on Library Proposals
L and M.
Proposal L, a renewal of the library’s
existing mills was approved by a 76%
margin.
Proposal M, a new mill for the library,
was approved by 63% of the voters.
“These are
terrific numbers and each of us should be very proud that our efforts
paid off,” said library director and CEO Nancy Skowronski. “We
are immensely grateful to Detroiters for their continued support of
the Detroit Public Library.”
“For all of
you who encouraged people to vote, who worked the polls, who volunteered
to distribute campaign materials, who made speeches, who encouraged
us on a daily basis, and/or represented DPL in countless other ways,
THANK YOU!” Skowronski said.
The new mill helps
restore funding lost by the library from state appropriations. In addition,
the new mill will help the Detroit Public Library to enhance technology
resources; strengthen library services to seniors, children and youth;
and enhance library services at regional library locations.
It is projected
that the library will start receiving collections for the new mill in
August 2005. For additional information, please contact Juliet Machie,
