A Supple Craft: Books Bound by Women

Main Library - Friends Conference Room 2nd floor
5201 Woodward Avenue
Detroit Michigan

Please join us for an intriguing evening at Detroit Public Library when we host the Book Club of Detroit and members of the Detroit Public Library Friends Foundation for a presentation on the unique contributions of women to the art and craft of bookbinding.

Julia Miller, an authority on the history of bookbinding, will elucidate the careers of several women bookbinders like Sybil Pye and Margaret Armstrong. Book collector and Club member Sam Gatteno will discuss his adventures pursuing such bookbindings and offer tips for those interested in collecting them.

A convivial reception of champagne and hors d’oeuvres honoring the generosity and friendship of Mary Adelaide Hester to the Detroit Public Library follows.

RSVP to Detroit Public Library Friends Foundation 313-833-4047 or email pmerritt@detroitpubliclibrary.org

Free and secure parking in the Library’s Putnam Street parking lot.
