What is the Summer Reading Program?

The Summer Reading Program (SRP) is a free incentive program to encourage children and teens to read.

The SRP includes many diverse, free, educational and fun progframs including entertainers, storytimes, science activities, crafts and other fun programs for kids and teens up to age 18.


What's new this year with the Summer Reading Program?

This year, the Detroit Public Library has opened the Summer Reading Program to children of all ages.


Who Can Participate?

  • Children ages 0 - 12
  • Teens ages 13-18


What Incentives do you recieve from participating?


Free books, coupons, certificates, and a free trip to the Detroit Zoo!


When and where does it take place?


SRP takes place citywide beginning June 16 through August 30. The Detroit Public Library has 23 neighborhood branches . It is simple to find a library close to you by visiting with library website or by calling 313.833.1000.
