Discover the Wonders of the Detroit Public Library: An Art and Architectural Tour

Discover the wonders of the Detroit Public Library - Main Library.  In celebration of the upcoming 150th year anniversary of the Detroit Public Library (DPL) in 2015, the DPL Friends Foundation presents docent led tours highlighting the art, architecture and collections of the Main Library. 

Highlights include:

  • Pewabic fireplace
  • Detroit historic murals
  • Ernie Harwell Room

Free, one hour docent led tours of the Main Library will begin at 1:00 p.m. on the first Saturday of every month.  Tours are limited to 40 people. Registration is required.

Please note that the March and April tours are full.

Visitors are asked to meet in the Woodward entrance hallway where tour guides will begin the tour of the facility.  Comfortable attire and footwear are suggested. The tour will end in the Ernie Harwell Room.
