GED Online Testing Now Available at Detroit Public Library

Success is just clicks away. The GED Test on computer.

DPL’s Technology, Literacy and Career (TLC) Center at the Main Library is now an official Pearson VUE testing site for the computer-based GED test. The American Council on Education, the provider of the GED test, recently partnered with Pearson VUE to deliver the GED® computer-based-testing program.

The GED test is administered online only in the TLC at Main Library; however, GED candidates must register and schedule all exams at the GED website for any or all content areas of the GED.

Michigan Online Testing Pricing

Each module = $37.50
Discounted GED retake (Michigan): $10.00
Two discounted GED retakes allowed for each test purchased.

  • Math:  115 minutes
  • Science: 90 minutes
  • Social Studies: 70 minutes
  • Reasoning through Language Arts: 150 minutes

Students who want to use a handheld calculator are responsible for bringing their own TI-30XS Multiview Scientific Calculator for Math, Social Studies and Science.

Passing Score Levels

High School equivalency:  145-164
College Ready:  165-174
College Ready + Credit:  175-200

Passing score is 145 or above on each subject test.

TLC’s current GED Testing Schedule
Tuesday: 12:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Thursday: 10:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

The 2014 GED Test consists of four content areas:

Reasoning through Language Arts (RLA) -- 150 minutes

  • Section 1 (27 minutes*)
  • Section 2 (45 minutes)
  • Student break (10 minutes)
  • Section 3 (60 minutes*)

*The time allotted for Sections 1 and 3 may vary slightly, but the total test time will always be 150 minutes.

Mathematical Reasoning -- 115 minutes

  • Part 1 (first 5 test questions), calculator not allowed
  • Part 2 (remaining 41 test questions), calculator allowed

Social Studies -- 70 minutes

Science -- 90 minutes

Tests are administered in English and Spanish.
