Burton's
Photograph Collection

- The Burton Historical
Collection has approximately 250,000 images in its Photo Collection,
including photographic prints, postcards, slides and negatives.
- Images are indexed
in a card file system by subject. No online indexing, or digital images
are available at this time. Photos of individuals are indexed in Burtons
Biography Index. The manuscript collection and the Ernie Harwell Sports
Collection also contain photos.
- If you plan to
publish or otherwise use reproductions of Burton images, contact the
Photo
Archivist. Every effort is made to satisfy requests to locate
images in our collection, though sometimes it is necessary to refer
customers to researchers for
more involved or time-consuming inquiries.
- Curatorial or
usage fees are $50 per image for commercial use, and $15 per image
for non-profit use, payable to the Burton Endowment Fund. Permission
for use is not granted until all fees are paid.
- Usage fees and
permission apply to one-time usage, e.g., use in any one format or
edition. Permission must be requested for usage in additional formats
or editions, and additional fees may apply. Separate permission
may be required for some images. Copies may not be sold or placed
in other institutions.
- To process an
order, a Reproduction
Permission Form must be completed and returned to Burton with
payment (or P.O. #) of curatorial fees, if applicable.
- Please allow
1-2 weeks for orders to be processed.
- Orders involving
more than 5 digital scans, negatives, or requests for prints will
be processed by a professional
photographer who sets his/her own fees and timetable.
