1918, the mission of the newly created Business & Commerce
Department was to be:"a clearing house for all varieties
of business information of importance and value." That mission
remains unchanged today in the Detroit Public Library's Business
& Finance Department.

B&F maintains
subscriptions to a large number of business and financial periodicals
and newspapers including Barrons, Business Week, Crain's Detroit
Business, The Financial Times, Forbes, Fortune, Investor's Business
Daily, and The Wall Street Journal.
A special
collection of "home-based and business how-to" books
contains specific small business start-up instructions and advice.
Specialized
services answered through the Business & Finance department
include business related reference service with the guidance and
assistance of reference librarians, and price quotes for stocks,
bonds and mutual funds.

reference service is available during normal library hours. Reference
questions are also welcome in person and by mail. Involved research
