Known
as the "Georgia Peach," Tyrus Raymond Cobb played 22 seasons
for the Detroit Tigers, from 1905 to 1926, doubling as manager for the last six
years. Considered one of baseball's greats, his impressive list of accomplishments
and unbroken records includes a lifetime batting average of .367, 12 batting titles,
and 892 stolen bases. He was the first player selected for the Hall of Fame in
1936. Cobb died in 1961.
